Five Things For Athletes

1. Godwin Heights is required to employ a Title IX coordinator for athletic and education compliance.  The Godwin Heights Title IX Compliance office is Robert Hisey, Middle School Principal.  If you need to contact him with a Title IX complaint he can be emailed at Hisey@godwinschools.org or reached by phone at (616-252-2070).

2. If you need more assistance, contact the OK Conference Commissioner James Haskins (616-254-6370) or Kent Intermediate Assistant Superintendent Ron Koehler (616-365-2292).

3. Athlete's are welcome to view all athletic records of Godwin Heights. Title IX Annual Compliance Reports are filed with the Kent ISD every year. Every three years Godwin Heights is required to have all 7-12th grade students complete a student interest survey to determine athleict offerings that would meet the needs of the student population.  While making this determination Godwin Heights must make sure they have an equal number of sports offerings for both male and female athletes.

4. Athletic expenditures by Godwin Heights that accepts federal funding have to be made in compliance with Title IX, which in turn have to be equitable between boys and girls. It is the responsibility  of Godwin Heights to ensure that all financial support from Sports Boosters, general fund dollars,  public or private donations, and services provided for athletic programs are equitable for both male and female athletes.

5. Equitable benefits and treatment are required, meaning that if there is a large disproportionate number of male athletes on the football team it may require offering two female sports to ensure participation numbers meet the standard of proportionality. Review the disproportionality requirement of Title IX and annual compliance report to determine if Godwin Heights has met that criteria.  The link can be found under the GH Athletics Tab on this website.
